PixSplat is a modern pixel art editor designed for both beginners and professionals. It offers a wide range of tools and features for creating pixel art, sprites, and game assets.

Is PixSplat free?

Yes, PixSplat is completely free to use. Both the web and desktop versions are available at no cost.

What platforms does PixSplat support?

PixSplat is available as:

  • Web application, Chrome (v128 or higher), Edge (v127 or higher), Firefox (v129 Nightly or higher), and Safari (v17.4 or higher).
  • Desktop application (Windows, macOS, Linux)

Who made PixSplat?

PixSplat was created by Manuel Machado, a software engineer with a passion for creating tools that make it easier to create and share pixel art.

What are the system requirements?

  • Web version: Modern browser with WebGPU support
  • Desktop version: Windows 10+, macOS 10.15+, or modern Linux distribution
  • 4GB RAM minimum (8GB recommended)
  • Compatible GPU with WebGPU support
  • 1GB free disk space

How do I update PixSplat?

  • Web version: Always up to date
  • Desktop version: There is a version tag at the top right corner of the window that will change colors to let you know when an update is ready to download. Click on it and it will take you to the download page. We don't have automatic updates yet because that would increase the cost of the servers, remember PixSplat is free 😊.

What file formats does PixSplat support?

PixSplat supports a wide range of image formats for both viewing and editing:

Tip: If you need to edit a read-only format, you can open it in PixSplat and then save it as one of the editable formats above.

Feature Questions

Can I use custom brushes?

Does PixSplat support animation?

Yes, PixSplat includes a timeline and animation tools for creating animated sprites.

Can I work with layers?

Yes, PixSplat supports multiple layers with various blend modes and opacity controls.

The application won't start
