Tools Guide

This guide provides detailed information about all the tools available in PixSplat.

Drawing Tools

Draw Tool

The Draw tool can be your basic pixel-perfect drawing tool or can be customized to work as a big brush tool with different stroke settings.

Shortcut: Shift+D

Features:

  • Adjustable size with pen pressure support
  • Adjustable hardness (strength) with pen pressure support
  • Adjustable spacing with pen pressure support
  • Adjustable flow with pen pressure support
  • Adjustable opacity with pen pressure support
  • Round or square brush tip
  • One Pixel Fix (Pixel Perfect Drawing)
  • Stabilizer with customizable distance
  • Multiple blending modes
  • Quick access features:
    • Hold P to temporarily switch to color picker
    • Hold M to temporarily move the active layer
    • Hold Ctrl/Cmd to draw straight lines
    • Hold Ctrl/Cmd+Shift to draw lines snapped to angles

Shape Tool

Create various shapes with customizable properties.

Features:

  • Shape types:
    • Rectangle
    • Ellipse
    • Line
  • Stroke size adjustment
  • Stroke strength control
  • Round or square brush tip
  • Fill option
  • Draw from center option
  • Multiple blending modes
  • Opacity control

Eraser Tool

Remove pixels with precision using the Eraser tool.

Shortcut: Shift+E

Features:

  • Same brush customization as Draw Tool:
    • Size with pressure sensitivity
    • Hardness with pressure sensitivity
    • Spacing with pressure sensitivity
    • Flow with pressure sensitivity
    • Opacity with pressure sensitivity
  • Round or square brush tip
  • One Pixel Fix (Pixel Perfect Erasing)
  • Stabilizer with customizable distance

Fill Tool

Fill areas with solid colors or gradients.

Features:

  • Fill modes:
    • Solid color
    • Gradient
  • Gradient options:
    • Multiple color stops
    • Adjustable positions
    • Dithering types:
      • None
      • Bayer 2x2
      • Bayer 4x4
      • Bayer 8x8
  • Tolerance adjustment
  • Contiguous/non-contiguous fill
  • Manual confirmation option
  • Opacity control
  • Multiple blending modes

Selection Tool

Select areas for editing with multiple selection modes.

Shortcut: Shift+S

Features:

  • Selection modes:
    • Rectangle
    • Ellipse
    • Lasso (freeform)
    • Magic wand (fill-based)
  • Lock addition/removal options
  • Selection drawing opacity control
  • Add to selection (hold Shift)
  • Remove from selection (hold Alt)
  • Mask drawings option. When enabled, the selection will prevent drawing outside of the selection.
  • Adjustable dashed line opacity
  • When the fill mode is active, you can disable the Apply fill on click to adjust your selection in real time and then apply the fill manually. This is useful to get a the perfect opacity or tolerance of the fill.

Transform Tool

Transform selected areas or layers.

Shortcut: Shift+T

Features:

  • Move
  • Scale
  • Rotate
  • Flip
  • Scale proportionally (hold Shift)
  • Scale from center (hold Ctrl/Cmd)
  • Free move control (hold Alt)

Color Picker Tool

Pick colors from the canvas.

Shortcut: Shift+P

Features:

  • Pick from active layer only option
  • Pick from all visible layers
  • Quick access from other tools by holding P

Text Tool

Add text to your artwork.

Features:

  • Font selection
  • Size adjustment
  • Color selection
  • Text alignment options
  • Confirm/cancel text input

Additional Tools

  • Move Layer Tool: Quickly reposition layers (quick access by holding M)
  • Crop Tool: Crop the canvas to a selected area

Tool Settings

Most tools support:

  • Preview mode customization
  • Opacity control
  • Blending mode selection
  • Pen pressure, tilt, and twist sensitivity where applicable

Keyboard Modifiers

  • Hold Shift for:
    • Proportional scaling
    • Angle-snapped lines
    • Add to selection
  • Hold Ctrl/Cmd for:
    • Scale from center
    • Draw straight lines
  • Hold Alt for:
    • Free transform
    • Remove from selection
